TRANSFER COSTS FROM GERMANY

International transfer fees from Germany

A bank transfer in euros within the EU and a foreign-currency transfer are not the same transaction. Compare the complete cost before choosing a provider.

Quick answer

For equivalent euro payments within the EU, banks generally must charge the same rate as for domestic euro transfers. Currency conversion and some non-SEPA payments can add exchange-rate spreads, transfer fees and intermediary charges.

Start by checking whether you need foreign exchange

For a transfer from Germany to another EU bank account receiving euros, a regular SEPA payment may be the simplest option. Do not compare that with paid currency conversion unless the recipient actually needs another currency.

The exchange-rate margin can outweigh the visible fee

A small upfront bank fee does not make a poor exchange rate inexpensive. Ask how much the recipient will receive after conversion and all known charges, not only what the sender pays.

Compare actual offers, not advertised percentages

Wise says its fee depends on the amount, how you pay and the currency pair. Bank funding and card funding may have different costs. Our guide is not a live quote or a claim about the cheapest service.

Large and small transfers behave differently

Fixed minimum fees dominate a very small transfer. On a large transfer, an exchange-rate difference can have a meaningful effect. Check the same route, payment method and recipient amount.

What to do next

Compare the same amount, route and final recipient amount. Provider prices and eligibility may change before checkout.
