LARGE INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS

Sending €10,000–€100,000 abroad from the Netherlands

With €10,000, €50,000 or €100,000, exchange-rate differences, bank limits and verification can matter more than the headline transfer fee. Plan the funding and documentation before you move the money.

The practical answer

Check the full recipient amount at your actual transfer value, then confirm both your bank's sending limit and Wise's limits for the selected currency and payment method. Prepare identity and source-of-funds documents early; a quote is not confirmation that a transfer is approved.

What changes as the amount grows?

Example amountPriority check
€10,000Verify the recipient and funding method; compare the complete FX spread and fees.
€22,000Check eligibility for Wise's published monthly volume-discount threshold.
€50,000Check documents, sending-bank limits, Wise limits and timing before arranging the payment.
€100,000Verify that this currency route supports the amount; review execution, limits and source-of-funds requests.

A €100,000 FX difference is not a small detail

An illustrative difference of 0.1 percentage points on €100,000 is €100. This is simple arithmetic, not a real quote or a claim about any provider's markup.

Compare the final amount the recipient receives using identical currencies, transfer date, funding method and payout details. If possible, decide when you need the funds and whether the amount or receiving sum must be exact.

Wise volume discounts: what €22,000 means

Wise publishes a European monthly volume threshold of €22,000 (or the equivalent) for eligible currency conversions. Its fee reduction applies to the eligible portion above the threshold, not retroactively to the entire first €22,000.

Qualifying completed conversions count towards your calendar-month volume (UTC); personal and Business profiles are tracked separately. The threshold is not a blanket price guarantee. Check the actual quote and supported currencies.

Get the bank transfer and identity checks ready

Your Dutch bank may have a per-payment or daily limit. Contact it early if you plan to transfer €50,000 or €100,000. Wise may also set currency- and payment-method-specific limits.

For larger transfers, Wise may request identity verification and documents establishing the source of funds, such as bank statements, payslips or a property-sale agreement. These checks can delay delivery.

  • Check your bank's daily and per-transfer payment limits before booking an FX rate.
  • Use the exact recipient name, account identifiers and country details.
  • Have supporting documents ready if the money comes from a sale, salary or savings.
  • Confirm which payment method supports the amount and how the quote handles fees.
  • Allow time for checks rather than relying on an estimated delivery date.

Should you split one large transfer?

A bank's own payment limit and Wise's supported route limits are different. Wise explains options when your bank prevents a single large payment, including asking your bank to raise its limit.

Do not split transfers to avoid identity, anti-fraud or source-of-funds checks. If you need staged payments, confirm with the bank and provider how the fees, rate, documentation and timing work.

Large-transfer checklist

  • Have you verified beneficiary bank details independently?
  • Is the chosen corridor supported at €10k, €50k or €100k?
  • Does your bank allow this amount via your chosen payment method?
  • Are identity and source-of-funds documents ready if requested?
  • Have you checked volume-discount eligibility and the actual final quote?
  • Is there enough time for possible verification and settlement delays?

Calculate a price for your own amount, currency and payment method.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send €100,000 with Wise from the Netherlands?

Possibly, but there is no universal €100,000 approval. Maximum amounts vary by currency route, funding method, account and checks. Verify the amount in the actual Wise flow.

Do I get a lower fee on the whole €50,000 after €22,000?

Not automatically. Wise describes tiered pricing: the qualifying portion above the European monthly threshold gets the lower applicable fee; the earlier portion remains at its applicable rate.

Will my €50,000 transfer arrive today?

Do not assume that. Timing depends on funding method, currency route and any verification or source-of-funds checks. Wise's estimate is not a guaranteed delivery deadline.

What documents can Wise ask for?

Examples include proof of identity, bank statements, payslips and documents explaining the source of a large payment. Requirements depend on the transaction.

Should I divide €100,000 into smaller transfers?

Not to bypass compliance checks. If your bank has a payment limit, contact it and Wise about legitimate options, pricing and documentation.
