BUSINESS PAYOUTS

Pay international freelancers from the Netherlands

A Portugal-based consultant invoicing in euros and an India-based designer paid in INR have different receiving requirements. Start with the invoice and contract, not the transfer provider's advertising.

In brief

A repeatable contractor payment process needs a stated currency, reliable beneficiary details, approvals, payment references and traceable receipts. Wise Business can be one payment option for eligible destinations and payout methods.

Match the process to the contractor

ExamplePayment questionPractical next step
€500 to a freelancer in the SEPA areaCan the contractor receive an ordinary EUR bank transfer?Check IBAN and invoice reference; currency conversion may not be necessary.
INR invoice to an India-based designerWhich bank or UPI method is supported and what payment purpose is required?Get a quote for the exact INR received amount and beneficiary.
$3,000 to a US contractorIs the receiving bank expecting routing details and what costs are deducted?Check exact USD receipt and valid account information.
15 contractors paid on the same dateHow will invoices and changes be approved and audited?Consider a checked batch and record any rejects or refunds.

A payment platform is not an employer-of-record

Contractor payments do not themselves establish proper employment classification, payroll compliance or local tax treatment. Decide if the person is genuinely an independent supplier under applicable rules and ensure contracts and invoices are appropriate.

A bank transfer company doesn't automatically become an EOR, accounting firm or legal adviser just because it handles the payout.

Agree the currency before repeating monthly payments

A freelancer quoting $3,000 net and a Dutch company budgeting a fixed euro amount are different contractual arrangements. Clarify whether the amount to protect is what the sender spends or what the contractor receives.

For a specific received currency amount, use a supported target-amount quote, and verify fees and intermediary deductions. Reconfirm bank detail changes independently.

When batching helps

Wise supports eligible Business batch payments of up to 1,000 recipients using supported CSV/XLSX templates. Batching reduces repeated entry but doesn't make each transfer free.

Separate invoice approval from execution. Track failed transfers and maintain enough documentation for reconciliation and contractor communication.

Example: one invoice, two payment arrangements

If a contractor invoices €1,000 and can receive euros at a SEPA account, start with an ordinary EUR payment. No currency conversion is necessary, so a foreign-exchange service is not automatically the best option.

If the invoice instead requires USD or INR, clarify whether the recipient needs the exact invoiced amount in that currency. Compare final recipient amounts, clarify who pays intermediary charges, and verify any changed beneficiary details independently.

Checklist before choosing

  • Is contractor status, invoice and contract correctly documented?
  • Is the agreed amount fixed in EUR or in the target currency?
  • Are beneficiary bank details independently verified?
  • Who approves payments and resolves rejected or delayed ones?

Frequently asked questions

Does Wise Business handle international employment compliance?

No. It provides payment services, not a substitute for legal classification, payroll or tax advice.

Can the contractor receive exactly $3,000?

Use a supported fixed-target quote and review intermediary charges and recipient details before confirmation.

Does a batch mean each transfer is free?

No. Wise says transfer fees apply individually, even when multiple payments are submitted together.
