Does a Remitly welcome rate apply indefinitely?
No. Published welcome offers generally specify eligible new customers, the first transfer and a maximum promotional amount.
PERSONAL COMPARISON
Wise and Remitly can both deliver international payments, but the destination and payout method determine whether their offers are even comparable. A cash-pickup transfer and a bank deposit are different purchases.
Wise is worth quoting when you need a supported currency conversion and bank payout. Remitly deserves consideration where the destination supports alternative collection methods. A new-customer promotional quote is not proof of the normal cost of monthly remittances.
| Factor | Wise | Remitly |
|---|---|---|
| Recipient experience | Supported bank transfer or UPI where the destination permits it. | Bank deposit, UPI or cash collection where available by country. |
| Fee model | Shows the conversion rate, fee and received sum for a supported transfer. | Price depends on corridor, funding and payout, plus eligibility for promotions. |
| New customers | No specific Wise affiliate joining discount is guaranteed by this site. | Some first-transfer promotions are capped and limited to qualifying new customers. |
| Repeat payments | Requote the exact amount and method when sending again. | Compare the post-promotion price for the second and later transfers. |
A headline promotional exchange rate may apply only to a qualifying first transfer and sometimes only to part of the total. For instance, Remitly's Netherlands-to-India flow advertises a first-transfer promotional cap that should not be extrapolated to later payments.
If you're sending monthly support to family, compare standard recurring costs in the same recipient currency rather than making the decision solely on the welcome screen.
For an ordinary bank deposit, you can compare the services on equivalent terms. If your recipient requires cash pickup, the available network and identification requirements can outweigh a small exchange-rate difference. Wise doesn't automatically cover every cash-collection scenario.
For India, a bank account and an eligible UPI identifier are distinct receiving options. Don't assume availability from the country name alone.
At €20, a flat fee or minimum can make a major difference. At €500 or €2,000, check any introductory-rate cap and what portion of the amount receives the quoted rate. For repeat payments, recheck the non-promotional fee each time.
