PERSONAL COMPARISON

Wise vs Revolut from the Netherlands: fees and exchange rates

Already holding currencies in Revolut and sending a one-off bank payment are different use cases. Price both services on the same currency pair, funding method and day before drawing a conclusion.

In brief

Wise offers an upfront transfer quote with exchange rate, fee and amount received. Revolut is worth evaluating if you already use its account and your transaction fits the plan allowance. Neither choice can be declared universally cheaper from a published fee headline.

The right comparison at €50, €500 and €5,000

At €50, a minimum or flat charge can determine the result. At €500, compare bank funding with card funding. At €5,000, consider the Revolut plan's remaining allowance and whether any applicable weekend exchange fee changes the quote.

Don't apply a general Revolut plan percentage to a Wise quote and call the result a live transfer comparison. Both figures have to describe the same payment.

A euro-to-euro SEPA transfer is different

When the recipient can take euros into an eligible SEPA account, your ordinary bank or existing Revolut account might be the practical starting point. No foreign-exchange comparison is needed unless somebody must convert the money.

What the recipient actually gets

Compare net receipt, not only the mid-market rate or the advertised fee. Check whether the sender pays charges on top, whether an intermediary bank may deduct costs, and whether the payout method is supported for the recipient.

Compare the same transaction, not two advertised rates

Get a quote on the same date, for the same currencies, destination bank account and amount received. Account for Wise’s selected funding method, and for Revolut’s separate exchange and international transfer charges.

Try both a €500 and €5,000 payment to the same recipient. Record what leaves your account and what arrives. If you would pay for a Revolut subscription solely for transfers, include that subscription in the total cost.

Checklist before choosing

  • Which Revolut subscription and monthly exchange allowance applies?
  • Is the conversion made during a period with weekend charges?
  • Are both quotes bank-funded and sent to the same payout method?
  • After all charges, what is the recipient's actual currency amount?

Frequently asked questions

Does Revolut Standard charge no fees for all international transfers?

No. Its rules for SEPA, exchange and other international transfers are distinct.

Is Wise cheaper for €5,000?

Only matching current quotes could establish that for a specific transaction.

What if I only need to send euros to another European bank?

Check your domestic-equivalent SEPA payment first, since currency exchange may not be needed.
